The foundational rights of citizens in the United States can only endure if Americans choose to protect and nurture the Constitution. This responsibility has been passed down between generations for hundreds of years. It has been considered sacred.
That is, until recently.
The problem is that civilizations do not always evolve. In fact, they often go through descents, diversions, or regressions—or even collapse.
Is that what’s happening in the United States? Conservative author Victor Davis Hanson says yes. He thinks that the very concept of American citizenship is being undermined by people who don’t understand or respect the Constitution.
Take the Constitution’s First and Second Amendments, which protect freedom of speech and the right to bear arms, respectively. Hanson argues that these rights are being questioned by progressive politicians who think they should be modified or discarded.
It remains to be seen if the US Constitution will withstand these attacks. To learn more about Hanson’s concerns, check out our Instaread on The Dying Citizen.
