Tom Brady’s Big Exit

Tom Brady had a very special bond with Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots. Their link was so sacred that Brady had stated his intention to stay with the team until his planned retirement in 2022.

So why did Brady leave two years early to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Part of the answer is Brady’s connection—or lack of connection—with head coach Bill Belichick. Brady’s relationship with him was always troubled, and they rarely interacted outside training sessions or games.

Increasingly, the coach resented the attention that Brady received from the media; he thought it was distracting. And as the most famous quarterback in NFL history, Brady felt like Belichick didn’t respect his authority, experience, or input.

Based on interviews that Sports Illustrated journalist Jeff Benedict conducted with key players, The Dynasty delves into Brady’s tenure with the Patriots and their incredible long-running success.
