You know how it is. Sometimes guys just want to beat each other up for recreational reasons. Step one: gather a group of the fellas, preferably in the basement of a bar. Step two: take off your shirts. Step three: punch each other very hard. No, this isn’t really what people did for fun in the 1990s. It’s the plot of the cult classic Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.
Anger Management
As you may have gathered, one of the themes in Palahniuk’s book is masculinity. The unnamed narrator was angry about his life until he discovered that self-destruction was the answer to his problems. After a night in fight club, he felt calmer. Better. Fight club became a place for him and other men to release their anger and frustration.
