Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Some of us have always struggled to strike up conversations and make good first impressions. And plenty more people felt their social skills erode over the course of the pandemic. Don’t worry: feeling a little nervous around new people is very common, and the easiest way to overcome it is just accepting the discomfort, which shouldn’t last long.

If you want to be more proactive, know that social skills can be learned or improved. Identifying your personal deficits—whether it’s a self-esteem problem, or some other issue—is an easy step in overcoming anxiety.

Social skills aren’t just superficial, by the way; learning to get along with others will enhance your ability to listen, assert yourself, and respond quickly in a variety of situations. You’ll also gain more situational awareness, which is always a plus.

With the right mindset, you can connect with almost anyone. Learn more in our Instaread on The Social Skills Guidebook
