Your brain is a natural operating system. And we’re lucky enough to live in an era where this OS is increasingly well understood. Simple techniques can activate the chemicals in your brain that make you feel most happy. Here are a few suggestions.
Celebrate small victories. Big successes are few and far between, so it pays to pay attention to the smaller ones. Enjoy the little thrill of reaching “inbox zero” or cleaning the kitchen. This activates dopamine, and will motivate you to do more.
Laugh more. Laughing releases endorphins, which boost your mood. It’s a great excuse to listen to your favorite funny podcast or do something else to make you chuckle at least once a day.
Take pride in your accomplishments. We spend a lot of time seeking other people’s approval. But simply taking pride in your own work can activate serotonin, a feel-good brain chemical.
