Our culture is obsessed with childhood trauma, often using it to explain adult issues. But the truth is that most adults overcome childhood pain and move on. Historically, what we now call childhood trauma was just part of life: hunger, loss, and (sometimes) abuse. Over-diagnosis may actually lead to increased anxiety and depression among youth — so we need to be careful about therapies and medications for our kids.
