A Delicate Balance

A good courtier fills a variety of roles, from offering advice to breaking in pairs of the monarch’s new shoes. They have to balance their loyalty between the royal family members they serve and the institution of the Royals, which has a high-maintenance brand. As with any job, some courtiers are better at the work than others — and the current lot has faced a lot of criticism in the wake of Harry and Meghan’s departure. Is there a way forward?
