Golf used to be a very different sport. Before World War I, professional golfing was a part-time job for most people, who worked at country clubs to make ends meet. Now top golfers earn big money — so much so that the professional golf world is now at war.

The Saudi Arabian government doesn’t have a great reputation in the United States, especially after the gruesome murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. So when the Saudis established their own golf league, LIV Golf, it was very controversial. The new company offered substantial sums to sign players, causing an uproar in the community.
