Do racism, sexism, and other forms of bias exist? Not really, says Thomas Sowell, who is one of the most famous Black conservatives in the U.S. Or at least discrimination isn’t a problem to the extent that social justice advocates would have you believe.
Social justice arguments can be misleading. Take the fact that there are fewer women than men in the field of engineering. That isn’t necessarily because women are discriminated against during the hiring process. Sowell says that a lower percentage of women obtain engineering degrees, which means the pool of women candidates is simply smaller. The standard used to measure employer discrimination simply isn’t weighted properly.
